ABOUT

Fly-Town Puppet Theatre is a high school puppet theatre company located at Mott Middle College High School in Flint, Michigan. Fly-Town Puppet Theatre was conceived of and developed by co-Artistic Directors and Fine Arts Teachers Matthew Osmon and Katherine Young and focuses on magical-realism, surrealism, the subconscious and promoting awareness of culture, diversity and social justice issues. Fly-Town’s work is inspired by Japanese Bunraku puppets, European rod puppets, hybrid puppets, marionette-porte “the carried marionettes”, Southeast Asian shadow-puppets, giant parade-style puppets and mask work. Katherine Young teaches puppeteering, writes and workshops the plays and functions as the director of the plays and parades. Matthew Osmon teaches design, engineering and construction of  puppets and props as well as sound and lights and functions as the technical director. Mott Middle College students take on many roles during the process of planning and production including design, engineering, fine art, prop making, puppet making, sound design, lighting, staging, movement, performance and much more.
